Arwy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 And she gets a salary for that? I guess I'll have to be an English teacher :D woah, I'd never be a teacher  I don't have that much patience :D No school teaches you how to live in an English-speaking country, since there are more of them, not to mention the different dialects, even within the countries themselves  You have to move there to learn it properly. yeah, but of course they understand the english you learn at hungarian schools as well, so there's no problem, maybe in the first few weeks/months you have to ask them to tell you things slowly, but you surely will understand them well after you spent some tiime at that place
Antaras Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Man -- my teacher is an idiot, we need to play a cast to show the schools english teaching... We did about 4-5 shows And the last show was hungaryan (when it needs to be english) and before 3hours of the show he told , we dont play the show I only learn english about 3-4 years , so it's not the best :) and i wrote this only to raise my posts :D(and borred)
gamer467 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Luckily, I have good English teachers (there are 2). I've only learnt this language for 4-5 years. And she gets a salary for that? I guess I'll have to be an English teacher :D I think you don't want to be one. The students can make you angry. :D
Arwy Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I think you don't want to be one. The students can make you angry. :D Yeah, that's why I'll never be a teacher. I'd go mad and kill all the students if they wouldn't understand things in 10 minutes :D
tenderlumpling Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Yeah, that's why I'll never be a teacher. I'd go mad and kill all the students if they wouldn't understand things in 10 minutes :D You'll never be a Jedi. -_-
Arwy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You'll never be a Jedi. -_- Also Princess Leia and Amidala have never been Jedis :D
otvosa Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Sorry for interoption, but I would like to know how is it in english: "Kipróbálása elõtt kérdezze meg kezelõorvosát, gyógyszerészét!" Thank you very much!
BajuszGG Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Sorry for interoption, but I would like to know how is it in english: "Kipróbálása elõtt kérdezze meg kezelõorvosát, gyógyszerészét!" Thank you very much! For risks and side effects please read the package insert and ask your doctor or pharmacist. I guess... I've translated it from the German "Zu Risikieren und Nebenwirkungen lesen Sie die Packungsbeilage und fragen Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker". Try to modify it. :D
MailMan Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Sorry for interoption, but I would like to know how is it in english: "Kipróbálása elõtt kérdezze meg kezelõorvosát, gyógyszerészét!" Thank you very much! Btw it's 'interruption' :D (inter-option - is this the "middle road"?)
Thorpedro Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 well ive thought a lot about how english can be learnt effectively. you guys are never really gonna learn / speak english if you just chat to foreigners. get a microphone and talk on it in game. also hungarians tend to have a terrible accent, everyone should spend time trying to eliminate theirs. there are mistakes that are commonly made specifically by hungarians. be aware of your weak points and work on them. dont make it a pain in the ass for native speakers to listen to you. make sure your aim is to learn the language not pass your exams. if the fact that you can have a conversation with your english teacher or other english speaking hungarians in english without problems satisfies you then youre on the wrong path. these are my main pieces of advice. if you dont agree with me, nows the time to throw some shit at me :D *steps aside* Oh yeah mr I does say some good things there. You know why most hungarians speak shit english? Cause they don't learn the language, they prepare for language exams, and that's hell of a difference. You gonna use it in real life and not in bloody classrooms, so you gotta surround yourself with the english way. News, newspapers, music, everything, learn to sense and feel, how these people, live, react and think. As for the accent, it is pretty something hungarians have a lot to work on. Living say in the UK will help a lot, and don't be shy to record yourself talkin, just like say drummers do, cause that will give all the little spots away, and help you work on those. American movies are everywhere, but if you wanna get a taste of that nice proper posh english, get all the bloody movies Hugh Grant plays in and listen to him. He is the ENGLISHMAN talking. Also a very important fact to consider. To develop a nearly perfect accent in short time you have to be born to speak foreign languages. Otherwise it will take long long months years and even with that not everyone is guaranteed to get the expected results. But hard and enthusiastic work always off. So go for it guyz and never look back!!:) And the biggest secret that helped me the most, you gotta practice every single fuckin day. Always quality over quantity. Sooo have lotsa fun!!!!:)
tenderlumpling Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 First I'd consider to actually write as an englishman before I try to be the smart guy on the topic. -_- As for the accent, try to understand and imitate this guy: Zero Punctuation He's a british-born australian video game reviewer, he makes funny 5-minute videos, enjoy :)

Sooo have lotsa fun!!!!:) british english is in no way worth more than american english. both have the same ancestor but they went down a different path and became different in a lot of ways. which one you prefer is up to your personal preferences. i like listening to british people but i would never try to speak like them. being european when i get a chance to play with foreign people on the internet, they are most of the time from the UK. at least we have something to laugh about cos i pronounce words the american way and it leads to confusion on both sides when we say words like "melee" or "direction" or "garage". their R dropping accent also confuses me sometimes ("orb" or "beard").
Arwy Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 First I'd consider to actually write as an englishman before I try to be the smart guy on the topic. -_- Yeah, I also like those better who doesn't try to be smart guys by using slang expressions and things like that. And as for the English accent and the movies Thorpedro mentioned, well, if you work in an office or some official place (not in factories or on a rock stage), then you have to speak properly, not the slang thing. And you need slang English or sland American neither for filling official papers. I understand American English better and I usually speak that, but I hate those who despise British English speakers, but this video is actually funny :D Top 10 Stupid Things Americans Say To Brits

This whole accent stuff is a pretty interesting thing as it does carry a lot more importance than say in Hungarian. While in HUN talking to two people won't neccesary give you any information about their background in english it actually does say everything about you. Just from your accent, it can easily be picked up whether you come from an educated background, a rich family, worker class, some bully prick from the west midlands, or maybe an annoying welshman. And it can also determine your chances in a job interview, the way people will talk to you and so on. American accent which comes from the irish is a lot easier to learn, no surprise most people speak that, including myself, and that makes it funny again. A great number of people hate americans, you might even get bullied for that in some rough areas, while most of the girls and ladies i talked to, well they love my lovely words haha, and just go crazy sometimes thinkin here's the american boy. For me the SBS is the nicest sounding, but whichever you choose, lotsa tapes are around to download, and listen to giving you a truly great workout and hours of advice how you can practise the best, for the greatest possible outcome. I've got one for the SBS just mentioned, and one for the cockney if anybody's interested in practicing them just give me a shout, and i'll send them. Good thing is that all the exericeses are a comparison against the american one, so it gives you all the wind you need to set sail:)
Raven Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 i know a welsh guy. i always call him a sheep shagger... for obvious reasons. click i dont know much about the cockey accent. i used to have a guy from london on my team in a multiplayer game who had a cockey accent but my english was terrible back then so i dont remember much of what he said to me. but it was funny when he asked me if i could hear him: "can you hear me mate" and his "mate" sounded like a standard "might" in most accents.

I dress smart, but that's a different story right haha:D Just because i do have a point of view based on some experience and i do share it, it doesn't mean that i have the intention of proving anything. Besides i'd just like to make a little note, that i was hardly using any slang words. It was a normal everyday writing put together, based on the everyday language we use here. Sure it's different from what you learn at school, but lets be honest 90% of the hungarian education is about everything but preparing you for the real life. Simple as that. You want annoying slang, talk to the bloody british kids on msn, now their stuff is gonna send your head spinning big time buddy i've got a tenner for that;) i know a welsh guy. i always call him a sheep shagger... for obvious reasons. click i dont know much about the cockey accent. i used to have a guy from london on my team in a multiplayer game who had a cockey accent but my english was terrible back then so i dont remember much of what he said to me. but it was funny when he asked me if i could hear him: "can you hear me mate" and his "mate" sounded like a standard "might" in most accents. Thats fuckin A:) Sheep shagger, a lot of them are, that's sooo true, i love that lol:) As for the cockney accent, actually you might have heard it b4 even without realising. Anybody who played GTA Vice City??? Of course, we all did, bloody grade A stuff:) Remember Kent Paul that annoyingly funny english kid. He's dubbing actor was Danny Dyer, and he's the cockney guy. He actually played in a movie called Severance, that was part shot in hungary, with some stupid funny horror story. So cockney accent, just search 4 him on youtube, or just watch out for mr Paul in the game:) And also in vice city, if you wanna hear the scottish way, listen to the love fist guyz:D

SasOri-Sama Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 lucky cunt :D It was actually organised to Scotland, but the little whiny pricks didn't want to go there, so they changed it to England. :/ But I'm still looking forward to the trip, the only problem is that where will i buy myself a few pack of smokes. :D Because I don't want to take it through the english border, damn cops check the bags. :S There is a HMV (or something similar) on the Oxford street and there is even an underground-station in its near. Thanks mate, i'll look around. :)

Maybe you should ask those who you go with :D

While it certainly is harder to recognize hungarian people's background from their accents - us being a much more homogeneous nation than the english - you certainly CAN tell a lot about people judging by how they speak. There are at least ten dialects (check this ), and countless slangs used by countless subcultures. So maybe you should learn a bit of hungarian, listen to tapes, people talking, etc. :)
