Probably nothing serious :) I study international relations at the university, and we have Introduction to Political Science class, where we talked about the election last week. Our seminar teacher - who is a political analyser - said this whole election-hype was a big balloon, and it wouldn't affect our lives. Yeah, it's great that the USA has a black president, but it won't abolish inequality and racism against the afroamericans. Maybe he will call back the army from Iraq, but the USA still remains a greed power in the world's economy and politics,

well i didn't say that what he do would affect my life.

i don't think he'd call back the army.

and i think nobody thinks that the USA soon won't be a greed power in the world's economy and politics.

yeah, maybe it wont abolish inequality and racism against the afroamericans, but i think it's great that about a hundred (?) years ago they all were slaves in the US, and now the president of their country is a (half) afro-american, i think it's a good sign, that most of American people placed confidence in him (despite he's afro-american), so i don't think racism is very high in the US.

i think he's a good man, i don't think there would be so many scandals while he's the president, i've read that he lived at a lot of kinds of places, Hawaii, Indonesia, then he moved to New York to University, he went to Harvard to the university, and now he lives in Chicago, so i think he has a lot of experience, maybe.

the first thing that came to my mind when i heard obama was going for the presidency is that it was great that the usa would finally have a black president. theres a stereotype that black people are suppressed in the usa but i think its obvious obama couldnt have pulled off the win without the votes of the whites. so maybe america is not that racist as people might think.

You talk about it, so you hope for something from Obama (that his presidency can affect your life).

And you're wrong in one aspect. Obama did not win this election campaign - McCain lost it. The American society didn't want a new Bush for president, so they voted for the democrat one - even if he's a black man. My uncle lives in the USA, and he has co-workers who used to support republicans, but they were fed up with Bush, so they rather wanted a black person as a president. Who knows how many Americans thought in this way?

"so i don't think racism is very high in the US."

According to sociologists' surveys, racism is still one of the greatest problem in the US...

ok, so you think obama isn't better than bush was, and most of the people in the US have similar opinion to you?

whatever, they thought that even if he's black, he could be better president than bush was or mccain could be.

soooo, american people were able to defeat their racism and vote for a black, just because they didn't want 'another bush'. soooo, if i really wanted to quibble, then most of the americans think that 'bush is worse than an afro-american'... interesting... but, "what happened is happened" :)

we'll see how racist they will be and what obama will do... but i dont really think that america would cry for (if you said he's just like bush) "bushy" mccain :)

and well, i dont really hope for something from obama, i'm just curious about what he's gonna do... i mean... what should i hope for?

Oh my god.... can't we find other theme? The policy is very-very boring. <_< Although this is an interesting thing a black skin man won the american president vote....

By the way why do you speak about the policy? I know that this is a forbidden theme on the forum....

Policy? Don't you mean politics? And talking about politics objectively isn't forbidden if I'm correct.

well we talk about another nation's politics, so i dont think it's a bad thing and we didn't even said something political, and yeah i agree with sasori-sama.

aaand politics is also a topic at language exams, aaand i think we can talk about english speaking countries' politics or political systems in the english topic, and of course its big news that a black has wan the elections, i think.

Wonder if "objectively" exists... Anyway, I agree with Real, let's talk about something else.

I wonder, that something like "objectively" really exists. I mean, in non-scientific topics.

i think you mean the word objectivity. objectively is an adverb.

Now there's a gentleman

that made a lot of sense too. :P

Well, if you ask back "What?" to an English person, he or she will think of you as being impolite :)

"what?" is just as widely used in spoken english as "mi?" in hungarian. in a formal environment id use "excuse me?" or "pardon?".

Or imbecile :D

Well, wow. You think, hungarians never say: "szerintem olyan, hogy "objektíven" nem létezik"?

irrelevant question since were speaking in english now. but go ahead and use "objectively", i dont care.

I sense great anger in this one...

Of course, it depends on the context. It's hard to imagine a bunch of "niggaz" in the hood asking each other "I beg your pardon, mister?"

Objectively and objectivity means the same in this case. And it's "an irrelevant question since" we are talking about objectivity. Or doing something objectively. Get it?
