SasOri-Sama Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hey guys, did any of you attend the english OKTV this year? Cuz I scored 88%, and I'd really like to be enlisted into the 2nd round, and I hope someone here has some experience 'bout it.

I was way too fucking lazy to even try it, although I scored 93% on my final advanced english exam. B)

Janci91 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Now i am in an international congress in hungary, and there are some isralian delegates. They speech, and quilification in english is so marvellous that earlier i have never heard. How can be it? What kind of your education and conditions as well?
B4LINT Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Israel relies very deeply on international relations, they need to maintain a very specific situation, a lot of conflicts had been seen in that country. They learned it in the past that they need to be very well qualified debaters, that they need to own a toolbox that can be used to counter-argument their partners - the official languages are hebrew and arabic, they surely know they can't use them. Yeah, you can say that we, Hungarian also know we can't use our mother-tounge, but hey, have Hungary seen that may conflicts, do we really need to have that well-qualified people? They have their palestin-israeli conflict, a not too stable political situation, they need to have quite good diplomats - and to have quite good diplomats, you (assuming you're the state) need to provide an educational system that simply vomits people with excellent language skills... from that mass, you can easily choose the best debaters that stand for your country. szerk.: Btw... I am now blablabla, not now I am. Earlier goes to the end of the sentence. Commas are overused, you don't use a comma if you list things... How can it be, not how can be it... it's a simple fuckin question :D Who is that 'you', who are you asking about education and conditions? (that sentence just simply doesn't make any sense though)

hunocsi Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hey girls and guy, help me. I heard this song yesterday and I really did not understand this part: "You have the right to food money, providing of course, you don't mind a little investigation, humiliation, and, if you cross your fingers, rehabilitation." It would be good to have someone who gets this kind of legal stuff. Translate it for me, please! Thanks :)
arazu Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I read your post yesterday, and thought about this lovely paragraph with lotsa idioms and alternate meanings. Actually, I won't (can not) translate it, but you shall get it. I've done my homework, this is a song from "The Clash", an english rock or punk or whatever band. You've prolly realized the message of the song: the government, the legal system sucks and so on. From my point of view, this song (and the paragraph above) explains that people in those days had rights, but these sort of rights aren't the "real ones". You get "investigated", humiliated, arrested etc. because of them..think about freedom of speech, censorship.....the whole song is a satirical piece of 80's. The UK have participiated in the Imposed War (or the First Persian Gulf War), thenceforth protesters appeared, demonstrations started - IMHO the line "free speech" directs here. This happened in 1982, and this song was released in the same year. Laptop keyboard and tiredness, do not expect much if it comes to grammar...I am waiting for other opinions tho...
Arwy Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Well, I googled it and this comment seemed quite helpful in understanding that part of the song: "I'm pretty sure the "investigation, humiliation" refers to the government researching and testing people to see if they were poor enough to be put on welfare. Hence, if you were lucky, you would be "rehabilitated" back into society. " According to another comment on the same site where I found the one I meantioned above, 'food' isn't a verb here, so I'd translate it to a noun. I think in Hungarian it would look something like this: "Jogotok van ételt, pénzt kapni, persze csak ha nem zavar egy kis nyomozás, megalázás, és ha szerencsétek van, rehabilitáció/(pénzügyi) talpra állítás." Well, in my opinion, it looks bad. I don't really like song translations because most of the time they're only good in the movies... :D But I hope this helped you completely understand this part. :)
