Dniworrom Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Pls i have ten days to learn 8 topic of a book(it is the material of the next year english lessons)! so I just wanted to ask: -can you help me? Tell me some tricks how you learn new words! How you practice speaking, how you use grammar and how can you learn it! Pls tell me the way you study! I want to know you style! I said i have only 10 days! It will be the longest week of my life! (just like janoo) Maybe this little Gs community can help me! Oh by the WAY: GOGO HUNGARIANS GOGOGO!!!! WE WILL WIN! Poor Real madrid.. i think the passive way of learning english is more comfotable and more effective then you sit down with your exercisebook and to learn by rote!
Flame_of_Aiur Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 i think the passive way of learning english is more comfotable and more effective then you sit down with your exercisebook and to learn by rote! It's true, but on the other hand: What's the exact passive learning? And you need just passive? No. You have to learn in the ordinary way ("sit down with your exercisebook and to learn by rote!" ) What they forget to tell you in the school: USE it, and practise by yourself! So I think when you tired in the ordinary learning just start speaking. Like if you're mad or schizophrenic, that's the good word And come here to practise with real people, too Start read something in english: catch a copy of the Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince: on dc or somewhere No matter if you don't like it: reading is the best way to learn new words and to expand your active word-inventory (or whatever )! Or read something else... I just mentioned the british wizard boy, because I read it too and a plus thing to discuss is always good Probably you'll use the same words to tell it or to tell your opinion, your thoughts about it what you read some hours ago. This will fix it in your mind, and you'll able to use them at any times from this time forth. So you'll learn words

Flame_of_Aiur Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 i am planning to buy the new hp book! cause it's wrtitten in english! so mybe it could hlp! ty for the advice anfd if you have sth that is good for me pls write it down here! EVERYTHING written in english could be useful! If you have money for it, and you live in Bp, than try a foreign book store or the Libri Palota between Blaha and Astoria (Astoria is closer a bit...). On the 1st floor there are a whole bunch of english books: from sci-fi and philosophy throught arts and literature to eased stories and ordinary language books. And the 6th HP is 6e forints... so much for 600 medium pages. You can buy much more if you're clever and lucky a bit... What type, what sort of books do you like? Fantasy or Sci-fi or other, I mean...
j4d3n Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Oh, this is a great topic. I've just found it. Flame_of_Aiur: I've bought the sixth HP book, and I've really enjoyed that, and I think I will visit the closest Libri or Alexandra for an english book. Maybe I try a fantasy book, I don't know yet... I haven't tried to read a fantasy book in hungarian, so... maybe I shuldn't start with an english one.

For a single and dark moment I addled you with jk345, but now... Welcome here! Forgotten Realms and similars maybe a good start... they aren't the best as I heard, but it depends on you too I can advise you Arthur C. Clarke: well... everything what you found from him. There's no telling how magnificent and intresting... He knew something...

I don't like this leet style, but the Jaden was used... I've heard about Forgotten Realms, so maybe I choose that... I don't know should I buy an english book... Because Harry Potter is a tale, a book for children... so it wasn't too difficult to read. But a really fantasy book...

But a really fantasy book... Have you ever read the HP and the Philosopher's Stone? That was for children, but the 3rd one (Prisoner of Azkaban) was a turning point. Since then the story itself became darker and people who read it all along in english said to me that it become harder. So these days it's a real english book. And after some chapters of the Imperial Earth (Arthur C. Clarke's book) I can say it too... there is no sensible difference - exept that first is a fantasy and the second is sci-fi with a lot of physical description. HP has a lot of expression for the different types of speaking. And - generally - when someone/something makes sound or noise And a lot of attributes. Do not try to seek out all of them from the dictionary... just read. You'll understand more than you first expect.

Okay, but in hungarian I did not saw any differences between the books... but now, I won't buy the first hp book in english, I think I will try a fantasy or a sci-fi book. "Do not try to seek out all of them from the dictionary... just read." Ehh, I didn't used the dictionary too much while I read the Half-Blood Prince, I'm just seeked (?) out the most important words, anything else I understood from the word's environment.
Lpat Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 auir: addled means to think of somebody but that smomebody is not who you think? I hope you did understand that! You convinced me to buy hp! But i do not live in budapest! I live in Ukrania so... damn trianon I was just kiddin' I live in Veszprém(oh this sentence was my favorite when i started to study this language!) But my mother works in bjüdõpeszt so i will make her to buy it for me! I like fantasy books but i thing Forgotten Realms is trash! I like the world of star wars(sc i-fi) and M.A.G.U.S. but it is a hungarian world so there wont be any english books of that:

Lpat Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Hmm, and could you recommend me a fantasy book in english? I've not readed any fantasy book before, so I don't know what is good for beginning... I think the best to start with is to start with the first fantasy book itself: Lord of the Rings! J.R.R.R.R... Tolkien the best!
MrBaggins Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 I think the best to start with is to start with the first fantasy book itself: Lord of the Rings! J.R.R.R.R... Tolkien the best! Excellent choice!
martin_dante Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I saw last night the pfv vs. real madrid match... But i think the PFV was very good!
-Dan- Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I saw last night the pfv vs. real madrid match... But i think the PFV was very good! I think so. The PFV was really good. Maybe in the future, we'll see real hungarian football.
Lpat Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Oh, can I join? of course! The match was quite good int he first half of the second half I thought that we could win! I hope we will win against argentina!!
Cortez_Corleone Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 But the Real wasn't the REAL Real Madrid. So I think Argentina will be a more difficult opponent. But in my opinion, the Hungarian boys played quite good, but the goalkeeper was terrible.

jk345 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I saw last night the pfv vs. real madrid match... But i think the PFV was very good! I don't like football. I think,it's a stupid game. hey macarina!

Use the past form of understand instead of it! Sorry but it's a too rookie mistake to step over... Trianon is not for joke! And I doubt you read all FR books; so maybe you misjudge it...

To strenghten the word understand! sometimes you us : I like tea! But its more emphasising: I DO like tea!

I like the world of star wars(sc i-fi) and M.A.G.U.S. but it is a hungarian world so there wont be any english books of that: Forgotten Realms is trash? Oh, it hurt my heart when i was reading it. I know that not all of the FR books are good, but there are a lot of good series in stores, like War of the Spider Queen, Elminster, Dark Elf trilogy, Counselors and Kings, Evermeet, etc. M.A.G.U.S. is good? The old books are great, yes, I like them very much, but nowadays MAGUS novels are terrible. I was excited, when I had heard that new MAGUS novels will be written, but after 3-4 novels I finished them because they were boring... So I think FR novels a little bit better, I am reading the Silver Shadows book at the moment, and it is a very good FR book by Elaine Cunningham. And I also play DnD, so I love the Forgotten Realms But the best fantasy book writer who lives in the 21st century is David Gemmell. All of his novels are exciting and qualitative. And I also like George R. R. Martin, who has a lot of good cycles, too. But J.R.R. Tolkien is the best fantasy writer, he will be my favourite author forever!
